Club history

Our club began in 2011 with five or six friends getting together for coffee, initially meeting in Bohdan Guran's Best Western Hotel in Venice. Most men are friends from college days, sports, Plast, Sum or other Ukrainian organizations, socially and professionally compatible, and settled into retirement on the southwest coast of Florida. As more men in our Ukrainian community became interested or invited, our meetings became longer and louder, and we felt the luncheon venue would be more appropriate. After trying a few Venice, restaurants, we settled on the Saltwater cafĂ© in Nokomis, as the most convenient for most members.

Our first major club affair was to organize a New Year's Eve party for December 2011. These efforts and regular get-togethers worked well to cement the friendships of our members and ease the transition of our newer transplants into this new, relaxed Floridian environment. Beginning with this first party, as well as the next New Year's in Bohdan's hotel, these get-togethers were so successful and well received that we continue this fun tradition, with the last four years at the elegant Pelican Point Golf and Country Club in Venice.

As our club evolved, it became an integral and respected part of the Ukrainian American community and churches in our part of the state. Our first and former president, Jaroslaw Zinycz, or Jerry is to be credited with formulating some of our club, goals, procedures, and protocols for guidance and dealing with issues arising within the community and our monthly meetings. As a private club, we recognize and continue to support our communities, cultural and social needs of our Ukrainian diaspora. We pride ourselves in being one of the go-to societies within the Ukrainian American community, in all of its cultural and social needs.

Social events, picnics, sport and cultural outings, out-of-town trips are the mainstay of our club members interest, and activities.
